Galle Fort

Located in Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, this spectacular fort was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 432 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.
The fort has a colourful history, and today has a multi-ethnic and multi-religious population.[The Sri Lankan government and many Dutch people who still own some of the properties inside the fort are looking at making this one of the modern wonders of the world. The heritage value of the fort has been recognized by the UNESCO and the site has been inscribed as a cultural heritage UNESCO World Heritage Site under criteria iv, for its unique exposition of "an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries."
The Galle Fort, also known as the Dutch Fort or the "Ramparts of Galle", withstood the Boxing Day tsunami which damaged part of coastal area Galle town. It has been since restored. Located just 35 minutes away from The Plantation, this historical masterpiece is withing easy reach.

Lake Koggala

Located just 200 meters from The Plantation, Lake Koggala is one of the most spectacular lakes in Sri Lanka. Recreational activities abound, with bespoke boat trips exploring this vast waterway, to fishing and mountain bike trails around the lake.

Weligama

Weligama is a popular tourist destination, with gorgeous beach, restaurants and cafes. Welligama hosts several unique boutique hotels including an off shore islet known as Taprobane, which houses a villa constructed by the French Count de Mauny. It was the birthplace of the scholar monk Weligama Sri Sumangala. Wellingama is a 25 minute drive from The Plantation.

Unawatuna

Unawatuna is a major tourist attraction in Sri Lanka and known for its beach and corals. It is a suburb of Galle, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) southeast to the city center and approximately 108 kilometres (67 mi) south of Colombo. Unawatuna is situated at an elevation of 5 metres (16 ft) above the sea level. Despite significant development in the last decade it is still home to the endangered and endemic purple-faced langur, an usually shy monkey species that can only be found in Sri Lanka's forests.
Unawatuna has long beaches, diving, lots of restaurants and famed beach club 'Angel Beach Club'. It is a vibrant area with lots of diversity.

Herman's Tea Estate

Located just 5 minutes from The Plantatation, Herman's tea estate tour is complimentary and offers a great insight into a working tea factory and plantation. Part of this experience is seeing the highly acclaimed 'Virgin White Tea'. The tea estate is informative. You will learn not only about tea but will also see coffee trees, rubber plants, pepper vines and a host of others. The highlight is to enjoy Herman's signature Oolong tea and some home made cake. There is a tasing of over 40 teas as part of the experience. The Plantation also boasts a small boutique tea estate which joins our land. You are most welcome to visit this estate to enjoy a a 'tea experience'.

CINNAMON PLANTATION EXPERIENCE

Located on an adjacent Cinnamon estate a few minutes walk from The Plantation is the 'Cinnamon Experience' tour. A great educational trip going over the process of growing the world's best cinnamon, to harvesting, processing and then tasting some of the products derived from this highly prized product.

Bike Tours

Explore the lush countryside around The Plantation and Lake Koggala. Our bike routes pass brillaint green paddy fields, electric blue kingfishers, stunning white egrets, large black buffalo, inland lakes, rolling tea hills, cinnamon estatess and locals beaming their typical warm smiles. This is a stunning sample of life in the south and provide a memorable experience that will remain long after your stay.

SurFing

World Class surf breaks of Ahangama are just 10 minutes away from The Plantation. Starting with the famous Ahangama reef break. Ahangama is quickly becoming a surf icon in the south with a number of breaks for different levels of surfers. A few minutes down the coast faatures another rlocal favorite called "The Rock". An abundance of choices for the high season and some secret spots even during the off season. This old sleepy fishing villas boasts some of the souths best restaurants. Speak to anyone in the south and they will tell you Ahangama is no longer a sleepy fishing village but a happening location.

Whale Watching

The ever smiling, mischievous dolphins will put on a show while some of the oldest and the largest sea creatures, the humpback and the blue whales, will nonchalantly glide past you, when you embark on a whale/ dolphin watching excursion off the Southern, Eastern or the West coast of Sri Lanka. Mirrissa is approximately 45 minutes from The Plantation. A must do during the season and something one will never forget.
